150 of Indian pilots were caught drunk before flight in the last 4 years

According to a DGCA India report, during the last 4 years, 150 of Indian pilots were found drunk before the flight. According to the regulation, cabin crew members are not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages 12 hours before the flight.

India again in the spotlight after DGCA India (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) published a report on flight safety. Over the past 8 years, 58 Air India pilots have been found to be intoxicated prior to flight. According to the regulation, cabin crew members (including pilots) are not allowed to consume alcohol with 12 hours before the flight.

Most drunk pilots were found at the airports of Delhi and Mumbai, as many as 18 in number. All the pilots in drunken condition were registered on the ground by the airline, and the license was suspended for 3 months.

These pilots were supposed to operate flights with thousands of people on board to various domestic and international destinations. It is worth mentioning that pilots trying to bypass, slice or refuse these tests performed by the authorities before the flight are also suspended.

The DGCA sounds an alarm and says that somewhere in the world, every month, between 1 and 4 Indian pilots are found to be intoxicated. According to information provided by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha, this is the second most frequently violated rule regarding flight safety.

In India, in 2015, 49 of cases with drunk pilots were recorded before the flight, and in 2016 there were 61 of cases, an alarming increase of 24%. Of the 61 cases registered in 2016, in 24 cases were pilots from Air India, 9 cases with IndiGo pilots and 7 SpiceJet cases, plus other cases.

Drawing the line, the report shows that 150 of Indian pilots were found intoxicated during the last 4 years, endangering the lives of thousands of passengers. It is worth mentioning that pilots can be tested before and after the flight.
