On 20 September 1966, Air France has launched the route Paris - Shanghai. It was the first European air carrier to fly to the People's Republic of China. These were operated by Boeing 707 aircraft. The flight duration was 23 hours and had stops in Athens, Cairo, Karachi and Phnom Penh. The services on board were provided by 3 cabin crew.

Currently, the duration of a flight has been reduced to 11 hours, and the aircraft used are of the Airbus A380 type.

In the 50 years of flights between France and China, Air France has adapted to the culture of Chinese passengers and offers personalized services. Developed products exclusively for flights to China.

At the moment, the Air France-KLM group offers 90 of flights weekly between the hubs of Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol towards 9 Chinese destinations. The 9 direct flight destinations are: Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Wuhan and Xiamen.

In partnership with Chinese operators (China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines), the Air France-KLM group offers up to 132 weekly flights to China.
