July 20, 2020 - Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day

On the occasion of the celebration of the Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day, on Monday, July 20, starting with 10.00, at the Monument of the Air Heroes in the Aviatorilor Square, a military and religious ceremony will take place with wreaths in memory of the aviator heroes.

The monument will be flown over by military aircraft from the Romanian Air Force, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Romanian Intelligence Service, civil aircraft from the Higher Civil Aviation School and the Romanian Aeroclub from the Ministry of Transport, a passenger aircraft from Tarom, the team aircraft independent of aerial acrobatics Iacării Acrobati, as well as civil aircraft from the endowment of the National Institute for Aerospace Research-Development Elie Carafoli.

Approximately 15 Romanian Air Force military aircraft will evolve

During the ceremony, approximately 15 military aircraft of the Romanian Air Force will evolve: F-16 Fighting Falcon, C-130 Hercules, C-27J Spartan, IAR-330 Puma, IAR-99 Standard, IAR-99 Falcon, 3 helicopters type Mi-17 and EC-135, a Cessna VC-560 aircraft belonging to Ministry of Internal Affairs, 3 IAR-330 Puma helicopters of the Romanian Intelligence Service, a Tecnam 2006 aircraft and a Piper Seneca V aircraft belonging to the Higher School of Civil Aviation, 2 BN-2A Islander aircraft and a Beechcraft King Air 90 aircraft belonging to the National Institute of Aerospace Research-Development Elie Carafoli, an aircraft Boeing 737 belonging to Tarom, 3 IAK-52 aircraft belonging to the independent aerobatic team from Romania, 5 Extra 300 aircraft belonging to the Romanian Aeroclub.

The ceremony will be organized in a small format, respecting the limitations imposed to prevent and combat the new coronavirus.

The Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day is celebrated every year on July 20, when the Holy Prophet Elijah Tesviteanul, the spiritual protector of the pilots, is celebrated. On June 17, 110 years ago, Aurel Vlaicu made the first complete flight with an airplane of his own design on the territory of our country.
