2017, the safest year in commercial aviation of all time
2018's debut comes with very good news from the Aviation Safety Network, a service developed by the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) to monitor all aviation accidents and incidents. It was founded in 1996.
We start 2018 with very good news from the Aviation Safety Network. 2017 was the safest year in the world of commercial aviation. 10 aviation accidents were recorded, which resulted in the loss of 44 lives. Other 35 people lost their lives on the ground after a Boeing 747-412F cargo plane crashed
2017 - the safest year in commercial aviation
Thus, 2017 is proving to be the safest year in commercial aviation in terms of accidents with victims, but also in terms of the number of deceased persons. We mention that in 2016, ASN reported 16 accidents with victims, which resulted in the loss of 303 people.
Returning to the 2017 accidents, 5 involved cargo aircraft and 5 were with commercial passenger aircraft. In 2017, 36 800 000 flights were reported. This results in an accident with victims on 7 360 000 flights.
The low number of accidents is not surprising, according to ASN President Harro Ranter: “Since 1997, the number of air accidents has been steadily declining. This is due to international organizations ICAO, IATA, Flight Safety Foundation and the aviation industry".
We remind you that the statistics include only commercial airplanes. If we were to take into account all types of aircraft (commercial and military), 2017 registered accidents with victims, which resulted in 24 deaths.
The most tragic plane crash of the year 2017 took place on 7 June. A Myanmar Air Force Y-8F aircraft was involved, and 122 people lost their lives.
According to these data, does anyone still dispute that the plane is the safest means of transport? :)
