22 million euros, bribe for duty-free in Otopeni airport!

The former general director of the Bucharest National Airports Company (CNAB), George Ivan, was detained by the DNA prosecutors, along with three other people who were in charge of managing the commercial spaces at the Otopeni-Bucharest airport.

The prosecutors say about the former head of the airport that he allegedly asked for a colossal bribe: more than 22 million euros, in several installments, to illegally extend the contracts for the exploitation of the spaces in the airport terminals, they announce euronews.ro.

Apart from the four detained, the business also included a current director, who was placed under judicial control. The four detainees spent the night in the custody of the Capital police and are now at the Bucharest Court. Prosecutors are asking that they be remanded in custody for their actions. A decision in this regard can only be taken by the court.

DNA gives the example that, between 01 January and 08 November 2022, the former head of the airport, who is still employed, allegedly demanded over 22 million euros in bribes from two businessmen, in 4 installments: 2 installments of 10 million of euros and two others of 1.2 million euros, to ensure the extension of business at the airport by one year or 5 years.
