In 2016, 243.7 millions of passengers chose low-cost carriers from Europe. Ryanair, Norwegian, easyJet and Wizz Air dominate the LCC market in Europe.
243 millions of passengers carried by low-cost airlines
According to figures reported by low-cost airlines, Ryanair remains the largest of the four mentioned above. According to Michael O'Leary, Ryanair has carried over 117 millions of passengers. In second place is easyJet with 74.4 million passengers carried, and on the 3 place is Norwegian with 29.3 million passengers transported. According to percentage increases, Wizz Air recorded the highest growth, this being of 19%. Ryanair reported an increase of 15% of passenger traffic, and norwegian has increased by 13%. easyJet announced a modest increase of 6.6%.
4 companies also announced an increase in cargo loading on aircraft. In 2016, Ryanair announced a load factor of 94%, which is the best in the company's history. The increase was 3 percentage points compared to 2015, when a load factor of 91% was recorded.
