50 of MC-21-300 aircraft for Aeroflot

Russia's national carrier - Aeroflot - has ordered 50 of Irkut MC-21 aircraft. It is an aircraft designed and built by Irkut Corporation and Yakovlev Design Bureau.

Aeroflot, the national carrier of Russia, has ordered 50 type MC-21-300 aircraft. It thus becomes the highest order customer for this type of aircraft.

The aircraft will be leased, the contract being signed at 1 February between Aeroflot and Rostec. The transaction was valued at 5 billion dollars, including a maintenance component.

50 of MC-21-300 aircraft

The aircraft will be configured in 2 classes and will be able to carry up to 169 passengers: 16 seats to business class and 153 seats to economy class. The flight range will be approximately 6000 kilometers.

The first 25 aircraft will be powered by the American Pratt & Whitney PW1400G engines, and the rest will be delivered with PD-14 engines built by Aviadvigatel. As mentioned above, the Irkut MC-21 is an aircraft designed and built in Russia.

The first MC-21-300 aircraft is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2020, and the last in command somewhere through 2026. Each aircraft will be rented for 12 years, with the option of a lease extension. Aeroflot intends to operate MC-21-300 on domestic and international routes.

MC-21-300 aircraft will compete with the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX models. Currently, the aircraft is undergoing certification tests. MC-21-300 operated the first flight in May 2017.
