87.7 million overnight stays of foreign tourists in Germany
German tourism records a record 2018 year, for the ninth time in a row. According to the provisional figures provided by the Federal Statistical Office, 87.7 millions of overnight stays of foreign tourists were registered in German accommodation units, from January to December.
Compared to the previous year, there are 3.8 million more nights spent in Germany, an increase of 5%.
Petra Hedorfer, president of the German Tourism Organization, explains: “At an increase of 5%, incoming German tourism has grown much more dynamically in 2018 than in the previous two years (1.4% and 3.6% respectively). Favorable economic conditions and stability in major source markets have contributed to this excellent result. On the other hand, we confirm that we are constantly aligning our global marketing with the current challenges of digital transformation. These things allow us to analyze more efficiently and in a more individualized way the needs of our clients, but also to offer products suitable for our tourism partners ”.
