9,31 million passengers to and from Romania
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure presented a statistics on air traffic from 2011 today. Over 10,7 millions of passengers have used air travel to and from Romania, but also domestic flights.
Of the 10,78 million passengers, 9,31 million used international air travel and 1,46 million domestic air travel. Compared to 2010, the statistics are increasing, but not significant. But it is 10 times over the average of 2000.
And the freight volume on aircrafts increased to 26,97 million tons, in 2011, compared to 25,54 million tons in 2010 and 24,49 million tons in 2009.
Aircraft movements decreased in 2011, to 151.511, from 163.222 to 2010, and 160.047 to 2009. This means that air transport has been streamlined. Fewer flights, more passengers and theoretically better profit.
According to Agerpres, Romania currently has 16 airports, only a part of them certified for domestic and international commercial flights. Four of them, Otopeni - Henri Coandă Airport, Aurel Vlaicu - Băneasa Airport, Mihail Kogălniceanu - Constanţa Airport and Traian Vuia - Timişoara Airport are subordinated to the Ministry of Transport.
