Airbus is close to signing a big contract with Garuda
The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is about to sign a big contract with Garuda, an airline in Indonesia. The contract would be worth 2.5 billion dollars and would mean the cost of 10 Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
"Negotiations between Airbus and Garuda are in the final stages, and an official announcement could come as early as Wednesday" - was the statement in the press of some sources close to these negotiations. British Prime Minister David Cameron, who is visiting Indonesia, could present the agreement.
An agreement could be more than welcome for Airbus, which has firm orders only for 90 aircraft, in the first quarter of the year 2012, compared to approximately 400 recorded by American rival Boeing.
The airline Garuda wants to expand its operations in Asia and the Middle East more and more. This order would complement the one completed in August 2011, which meant 25 Airbus A320 aircraft at a total price of $ 2.18 billion.
