Australia could reopen its borders for international tourists until Easter 2022. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Although Morrison has a positive outlook, he was careful not to confirm a specific date. "Well, I can't give you another precise date, and that's because we're just watching Omicron spread to the eastern states," he said. The announcement was made on January 31, 2022, just days after the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry urged the National Cabinet and the Federal Government to take important steps to reopen the international border.

"The tourism sector was one of the first to feel the huge costs of COVID-19. The international border has been closed to tourism markets for 678 days and continues, "said John Hart, chief executive of the Australian Chamber of Tourism.

Under current restrictions, only Australian citizens and permanent residents, their families and those with certain visas and exemptions can enter the country.
