Update May 14, 2020: Austrian Airlines has announced the extension of flight suspension periods until June 7. Due to worldwide travel restrictions, the demand for airline tickets is still low. The Austrian federal government has announced that Austria will reopen its borders with Germany and possibly other countries only on 15 June.

Update April 16, 2020: Unfortunately, global travel bans continue to be in place or have even been extended in some cases. For this reason, Austrian Airlines should extend the flight suspension period for a further two weeks, from May 3, 2020 to May 17, 2020, respectively.

Initial story: On 19 March 2020, Austrian Airlines has suspended all flights. Initially, this measure was taken until March 28, 2020. But given the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions imposed in the EU and other states, Austrian Airlines has decided to suspend all flights until April 19.

Everyone about 7000 employees were either technically unemployed or switched to short work hoursu, but payment up to 90% of wages will be ensured.

During this time, until April 19, 2020, Austrian Airlines will keep several aircraft in operational condition to respond promptly to requests received from the Austrian government. It will operate repatriation, humanitarian and cargo flights.

This is no "Goodbye" - it's just a "See you later"!
