Bamboo Airways received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to operate direct flights between Vietnam and the United States. For these flights, the airline will use Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

On November 6, Bamboo Airways officially received the "Foreign Air Carrier Permit" from the US Department of Transportation (USDOT). Thus, the low-cost airline will be able to operate passenger, cargo and mail flights between Vietnam and the USA.

This permit was obtained on one condition. The Vietnamese airline will have to open at least one base in the USA. The market has great potential because there are over 700 thousand passengers who travel annually between the 2 countries. There is also no other airline that operates direct flights between Vietnam and America.

Under this license, Bamboo Airways is licensed to operate non-stop flights between major Vietnamese airports (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) to all US international airports.

Bamboo Airways plans to have the first flights to Los Angeles or San Francisco. Depending on the evolution of the US pandemic, but also on market requirements, Bamboo Airways estimates that the first flights will be able to be operated towards the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021.

For these flights, the airline will use Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft: 28 seats in Business Class, 35 seats in Premium Economy and 211 seats in Economy Class. Bamboo Airways currently has a fleet of 21 Airbus A320, Airbus A321 and Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
