so much British Airways and Lufthansa will resume flights to London City Airport. Flights from Zurich, Frankfurt and Rotterdam to London will start operating - again - this month.

Flights taking off from London City will increase by more than 70% in September, to around 260 flights a week. However, air traffic is about 8% below pre-pandemic levels. The airport, a hotspot for city dwellers and the Canary Wharf business area, has focused on short flights and has relied - exclusively - on leisure travel since the restrictions were introduced this summer.

How the pandemic affected the demand for business travel is not yet known, but it is clear that city executives want to return to face-to-face meetings and business lunches with their customers.

Lufthansa will resume flights to Frankfurt from 16 September, while British Airways will add Rotterdam to the operational program from 20 September.

Helvetic Airways already operated on Thursday night uon a flight from Zurich to London City Airport (LCY). The short-haul flight was operated by an Embraer E190-E2 aircraft. HB-AZG registered, the Helvetic Airways aircraft made the trip in 1 hour and 20 minutes, re-establishing an essential link for the global financial community.
