In 2019, British Airways' parent company, IAG, became the first group of airlines in the world to commit to eliminating CO2 emissions by 2050, and last year British Airways became the first major airline to compensate - voluntary - all emissions from domestic flights.

British Airways, as part of the IAG commitment, has said it will supply 10% of its fuel needs with SAF by 2030.

Following the unveiling of the new livery, British Airways also announced a partnership with Bp, committing to providing sustainable aviation fuel for all its flights between London, Glasgow and Edinburgh, during the British COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow on the end of this year.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is blended with traditional aircraft fuel to meet aviation fuel certification standards. The SAF obtained for the COP26 period offers a reduction in the carbon life cycle of up to 80% compared to traditional aircraft fuel.

In a UK premiere, British Airways also announced that those who use the airline's services can purchase sustainable aviation fuel to reduce their carbon footprint through the non-profit organization Pure Leapfrog ***. This adds to the existing option for customers to offset their emissions.

The carrier has announced a new BA Better World community fund to continue its positive work in the UK and the global communities to which it flies and is committed to taking positive action in many other areas of its business.

The collaboration with Bp is part of British Airways' long-term commitment to the development and use of sustainable aviation fuel. The airline's parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG), is investing $ 400 million over the next 20 years in the development of SAF, with British Airways partnering with a number of technology and fuel companies to develop SAF power plants and buy fuel, including with Velocys in the UK and LanzaJet in the US.

The airline presented some of the initiatives it has introduced to improve air and ground sustainability, including the transition from diesel vehicles to electrically powered vehicles with renewable energy and the removal of the weight of its aircraft by introducing lighter seats and trolleys. , flight magazines and paper flight manuals.
