Bulgaria has updated the entry restrictions for Romanians. Vaccinations / transitions must also have a PCR test. The unvaccinated will stay in isolation for 10 days!

Romanian citizens arriving from states in the red zone (including from Romania) are allowed to enter the territory of Bulgaria on the basis of the presentation of travel documents, provided that the following conditions are met: CUMULATIVE (at the same time):

A) classification in one of the categories of persons limited by order (for example, citizens of the EU Member States, the EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and members of their families, arriving from an EU Member State, the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland;

B) presentation of an EU digital certificate on vaccination against COVID-19 or an EU digital certificate on the cure of COVID-19 or a similar document; 

C) presentation of an EU digital test certificate for COVID-19 or a similar document, with the same data as the EU digital test certificate, attesting a negative result of a PCR test, performed no later than 72 hours before arrival in Bulgaria.

People who NU presents a EU digital vaccination certificate or an EU digital cure certificate or similar document, may be allowed to enter the territory of Bulgaria on the basis of a EU digital test certificate or similar document, which certifies a negative result of a PCR test performed a maximum of 72 hours before arrival in Bulgaria. 

In this case, the person concerned will be placed in QUARANTINE for 10 days at home or in another place of accommodation where he has indicated that he will live.

In the case of minors between the ages of 12 and 18, Entry into Bulgaria is allowed on the basis of the presentation of an EU digital test certificate for COVID-19 or a similar document with the same data as the EU digital test certificate attesting a negative result of a PCR test performed with a maximum of 72 hours before arriving in Bulgaria. 

If the person concerned does not present such a document, he will be placed in QUARANTINE for 10 days at home or in another accommodation where he has indicated that he will live.

The categories exempted from the mandatory presentation of COVID-19 documents are the following:

  • drivers and flight attendants performing international passenger transport;
  • drivers of lorries carrying out or completing the international carriage of goods on entry into Bulgaria;
  • members of naval crews and persons engaged in the maintenance of ships who, on entering the territory of Bulgaria, are in the performance of their duties;
  • aircraft crew members, flying to and from public airports in Bulgaria and similar technical personnel;
  • cross-border workers (persons living in Bulgaria and traveling daily or at least once a week to a Member State of the European Union, Turkey, Serbia or the Republic of Northern Macedonia for the purpose of working as an employed or self-employed person, and persons living in those States and travel daily or at least once a week to Bulgaria for the purpose of carrying out their activity as an employee or self-employed person;
  • pupils, students and doctoral students living in Greece, Turkey, Serbia, the Republic of Northern Macedonia and Romania and traveling daily or at least once a week to Bulgaria for educational purposes, as well as pupils and students living in Bulgaria and traveling daily or at least once a week in Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Northern Macedonia and Romania for educational purposes;
  • persons transiting the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, in cases where immediate departure from the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria can be guaranteed;
  • children up to 12 years of age, regardless of the area of ​​the country of arrival;
  • citizens of Greece, Romania, Turkey, Serbia and the Republic of Northern Macedonia, who are admitted to the educational process in higher education institutions on Bulgarian territory, (fact) certified by a document issued by that higher education institution.

EXCEPTIONS AND PROVISIONS CONCERNING TRANSIT:

  • It is permitted, under certain conditions, to transit through the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.
  • For persons in transit through Bulgaria are not required to present one of the COVID-19 documents mentioned above.
  • Transit is only allowed in cases where immediate abandonment can be guaranteed of the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.
