Canada bans all flights arriving from the United Kingdom as of December 20, 2020 (00:00) in an effort to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 mutation. This new measure was announced on twitter by several senior Canadian government officials, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Public Safety Minister Bill Blair.
Blair said the travel restrictions would be in place for at least 72 hours, after which Canada would re-evaluate the decision. Blair also said flights from the UK to Canada would be canceled in the next three days.
Explaining the reasons for this decision, Blair wrote on twitter: "We are making this important decision to protect Canadians and keep our communities safe. These measures were imposed on the advice of public health officials. The restrictions will initially be in place for 72 hours, after which they could be extended or improved. "
