The Cypriot authorities have updated the national and entry rules imposed as a precautionary measure to protect the population from COVID-19 infections.
Under the new regulation, vaccinated passengers and those recovered from the virus are allowed to travel to Cyprus if their country of origin is considered epidemiologically safe. The new national travel rules will take effect on March 1.
The same regulation states that the rules of entry will depend on the epidemiological situation of the countries, which are divided into three categories; green, red and gray. In addition, fully vaccinated travelers and those who have recovered from COVID-19 will be exempted from the quarantine or testing requirements applicable to their country of origin. This means that they can enter the country by presenting the necessary documents, in this case the EU Digital Certificate COVID-19, regardless of the category in which the country of origin falls.
In addition, since Monday, January 24, the isolation time has been shortened from 14 to 10 days for people who are close contacts with an infected person. In addition, the isolation time may be canceled if a negative PCR test is provided on the seventh isolation day. Those who have received a second vaccination or a booster are exempted from the quarantine requirement.
However, green travelers are required to submit a rapid PCR or antigen test. While passengers in the red category will be subject to the requirements of double testing; before departure and a PCR test on arrival, both at the expense of the passenger.
Starting in March, passengers will be exempted from the obligation to isolate in tourist accommodation, covering the costs.
Passengers over the age of 18 must present a certificate of vaccination stating that they have received a booster dose within nine months of full vaccination with two doses or a single dose depending on the vaccine given. Otherwise, they will be considered unvaccinated.
Those who have only two injections of the COVID vaccine will be allowed to travel to Cyprus if the second dose has been given in the last nine months. In addition, children under the age of 18 will be exempt from testing and self-isolation if they are fully vaccinated. The validity of the recovery certificate was established 180 days after the first positive diagnosis.
