Germany closes its airspace for Russian aircraft

Germany announced on Saturday (February 26th) that it is preparing to close its airspace for Russian planes. It is the latest European country to do so in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Separately, German carrier Lufthansa said it had canceled all flights to Russia for next week.

The German Ministry of Transport announced the measure in a tweet. "Federal Minister Volker Wissing supports the blockade of German airspace for Russian aircraft and has ordered everything to be prepared for that."
