Greek Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiadis has expressed confidence in the evolution of the pandemic in Greece, as well as in the vaccination program. According to the minister, it was logical to have fear and concern about the situation of COVID-19, because no one knows when it will end. However, he seemed optimistic that the current situation in the country will improve in the next two weeks, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

Greece is accelerating the vaccination process

Georgiadis, among other things, mentioned that the country will be prepared for the tourist season, which will officially open on May 14, because it has accelerated vaccinations for workers in certain industries, including tourism.

Earlier this week, Greek authorities reopened their doors to tourists from the European Union, the Schengen area, the United Kingdom, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Serbia, as well as those traveling from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Citizens of the above-mentioned countries are allowed to enter Greece without being subject to quarantine rules only if they hold a vaccination certificate or have a negative COVID-19 test result, not older than 72 hours upon entry into the country.

However, persons coming from the territories not mentioned above must wait until 14 May to be able to travel to Greece without being quarantined, even if they obtain a vaccination document or a negative test result of no more than 72 hours before traveling.

Greece was one of the first countries to ask the European Union to introduce a digital green certificate in Europe for all people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Its role is to facilitate the travel process and to revive the tourism sector by summer.

Greece is also among the first countries to issue such documents for people who have been inoculated with two doses of any vaccine considered valid. Greek Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis has previously introduced a four-point action plan through which the tourism sector could begin to recover from the devastating situation caused by the virus.
