Passenger air traffic in Greece increased by 82.6% in August

The Greek Air Authority (CAA) has announced that passenger air traffic has increased by 82.6% this month compared to the same period in 2020. In a press release issued by the CAA, statistics for 2021 show that there has been an increase of 53.7% compared to the first eight months of 2020. In 2019, when there were no bans, the figure was 53.8% higher.

Moreover, the total number of passengers was 20.727.553 million, marking an increase of 53.7% compared to 2020, when more than 13 million passengers were greeted. On the other hand, Greek airports had 235.570 flights, of which 103.755 were domestic and 131.815 were international, an increase of 38.6% over the corresponding period in 2020, during which a total of 169.999 flights were operated.

Regarding the flights operated from January to August 2019, their number was approximately 368.414, there was a decrease of 36.1% of air traffic and 53.8% of passenger traffic, which - in pre-pandemic levels - was 44.895.202 million passengers.

Statistics from August 2021 show an upward trend in international passenger arrivals, marking an increase of 82.6% and 47.2% in flights.

In conclusion, passenger traffic in Greece increased by 82.6%, especially in terms of international arrivals, with 3.042.098 passengers arriving in the country in August compared to the same period last year, when they arrived in Greece. Greece only 1.666.222 passengers, an increase of 82,6% was detected.

The total number of domestic and international flights operated this year amounted to 71.248, an increase of 47.2% compared to the corresponding month of 2020, when 48.400 flights were operated. The total number of passenger arrivals and departures in August was set at 8.063.277 passengers, showing an increase of 77.7% compared to August passenger traffic.

However, aviation data from statistics from August 2021 and August 2019 show a 23.5% decrease in international passenger arrivals this year. In August 2019, there were 3.977.915 passengers, and the total passenger traffic at Greek airports decreased by 21.2%, which in 2019 was 10.238.414 passengers.

CAA reported last month that passenger traffic increased by 140.6%, with arrivals marking an increase of 146.8% in July 2021 compared to the same period last year. However, compared to the same season in the pre-pandemic era, tourism decreased by 63.5%.
