I downloaded the EU COVID Digital Certificate in just 3 minutes. Because I'm vaccinated, I chose the vaccine certificate!
Starting with July 1, 2021, Romania connected to European servers and adopted the EU COVID Digital Certificate. We receive a lot of questions from the editorial office about this digital certificate, what it is and what it helps us with. In today's article I try to answer all these questions.
In short, the EU COVID Digital Certificate is a document that will facilitate travel to EU countries. Until now, each country offered an atypical certificate to those who were vaccinated, tested or cured after infection with the new coronavirus.
As of June, but especially July 1, most EU countries have adopted this EU COVID Digital Certificate which means a unique standardized certificate, easily recognized by all countries.
All EU citizens who have been vaccinated; have a negative test result; cured of COVID-19 will be able to demonstrate this through a digital certificate called the EU digital certificate on COVID.
The certificate is issued free of charge by national authorities and is recognized by all 27 EU Member States, as well as by Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.
The certificate will be available in the national language and in English. The certificate consists of a QR code displayed on a mobile device (such as a smartphone or tablet) or printed and a digital signature, verified via the EU Gateway.
Very important to mention: the certificate is FREE!
How will the EU digital certificate on COVID facilitate travel within the EU? The certificate will allow you to travel more easily through the EU, as proof that you have been vaccinated, tested negative for COVID-19 or have recovered from the disease.
The EU digital certificate on COVID will be able to be verified quickly and will help prevent the use of false certificates across the EU. The certificate is not a travel document and no identity document. You will still need a passport or other form of identification. Also, in order to travel, it is not mandatory to have the certificate, but possession of it should make your travels easier. If you have an EU digital certificate for COVID, you should, in principle, be exempt from testing or quarantine. It is a document that should replace the similar document issued by each country. It is not a passport, it does not restrict your rights to travel, you are not required to take other measures.
How can I obtain the EU digital certificate on COVID?
There are three ways to obtain an EU digital certificate on COVID:
vaccination: you have been vaccinated with any of the COVID-19 vaccines;
you have recovered from a SARS-CoV-2 virus infection: less than 180 days have passed since the date of the positive test result (PCR);
you tested negative for COVID-19: you tested negative (PCR or RAT).
Enter on https://certificat-covid.gov.ro/. Enter an email address so you can receive the certificate login and generation link. Once you've entered your email address, you'll receive a link in the email that redirects you to a form. Fill it in with your data as required. If you choose a vaccination certificate, you must state which vaccine you were inoculated with, in which county and in which month. Personally, I got vaccinated with Moderna, and on the month I passed the booster one. I clicked on the certificate generation and that's it. It's that simple!
I received it in electronic format, but I also downloaded it in PDF format. From today, I can travel much easier and faster to EU countries. The EU COVID digital vaccination certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue.
Note: Certificate-recognized tests include nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT), such as RT-PCR tests, and rapid antigenic tests (RAT). Passengers should always check the applicable rules, namely which tests are accepted at points of transit and destination in order to be exempted from restrictions on free movement. Antibody testing is not recognized, although this may change after the system is launched.
