Tourism in Las Vegas is growing

Despite the crisis and recession, Las Vegas is enjoying more and more tourists. 2012 would be the 3 consecutive year in which the gambling capital enjoys growth.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said this week that it expects to collect 5% more hotel room fees in 2013 compared to the current year.

"Growth is more moderate than expected, but it is still rising," said Finance Authority Vice President Rana Lacer.

Room taxes increased by 14% in 2011 and 2012, following major declines in 2009. If growth continues, Las Vegas could enjoy revenues similar to those recorded in 2008, before the recession. Of all the taxes collected, 32% goes to the Visitors Authority, and a large part of them go to marketing and advertising. The rest of the taxes go to the municipal authorities and to the state projects.

Just last day I announced that British Airways will operate flights from London Gatwick to Las Vegas, from October 2012!
