To encourage tourists to choose Malta, local authorities have developed a system of financial incentives for accommodation. Tourists who choose to travel independently in Malta may receive money for accommodation. Through this system, the Malta Tourism Authority will encourage independent travelers wishing to visit the Maltese Islands for a minimum of 3 nights. Tourists must book that holiday directly at one of the 3 *, 4 * and 5 * hotels.

€ 100 per person for each booking in a 5 * hotel.
€ 75 per person for each booking in a 4 * hotel.
€ 50 per person for each booking in a 3 * hotel.

The incentive scheme will apply from June 2021. The allocated budget is 3.5 million EURO, which means that it could have a positive impact on 35 tourists, the final figures being determined based on the mix between customers of 000 * , 5 * and 4 *.

In order to have access to these discounts, those interested must register on the website of the Tourism Authority, more precisely at this link http://www.bit.ly/fit-scheme.

The aim is to attract visitors to overcome the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which has particularly severely affected Malta's important tourism sector. In 2018, tourism accounted for 27% of Malta's gross domestic product, according to Eurostat.
