The Portuguese Council of Ministers has announced that the country will soon ease some of the national restrictions on COVID-19.

According to the latest press release issued by the Portuguese government, as soon as the new amended rules come into force, citizens of the country, as well as travelers visiting Portugal, will no longer be required to test negative when participating in major events. .

The requirement to present a vaccination or recovery certificate for access to bars, restaurants and other public places will also be waived.

In addition to the above, the authorities have revealed that there will be no further restrictions on the capacity of persons admitted to an area during the same periods. The proposed relaxed measures must now be approved by the President of Portugal for them to enter into force.

Commenting on the proposed relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, Minister of State Mariana Vieira da Silva said the new relaxed rules would help the country's citizens and travelers return to a normal life. In addition, she revealed that the government intends to lift all remaining restrictions by mid-March.

The Portuguese authorities intend to ease the restrictions on COVID-19, as the country does not have a large number of hospitalizations.

Although the local COVID certificate will be dropped locally, authorities have explained that all those wishing to visit the country are still required to comply with this entry rule.

Portugal currently requires all arriving travelers to prove that they have been vaccinated, tested or tested for COVID-19 disease.

Portugal shall recognize the recovery certificates as long as the document proves that the holder has tested positive in the last 180 days.

On the other hand, vaccination certificates are only accepted if the document shows that the holder has carried out the primary vaccination in the last nine months (270 days). Those who were vaccinated more than nine months ago must receive an additional dose of vaccine in order for their permit to be considered valid when they arrive in Portugal.
