President Klaus Iohannis announced that Romania will be out of the alert state, starting with March 9, 2022, two years after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Klaus Iohannis announced on Friday, in a press statement, that the state of alert will not be extended after March 8. The decision was made after a meeting in Cotroceni with those responsible for managing the pandemic.

"We do not extend beyond March 8 the state of alert established in Romania. The Ministry of Health is the one that will continue to manage the evolution of the epidemic, which we hope is coming to an end. With the lifting of the alert, a series of measures that have been in force until now will be eliminated. The complete measures will be announced and explained in detail, in the next period, by the competent authorities."Said Klaus Iohannis.

"The fact that today we can speak of a new stage, which means at least the end of this pandemic wave, is largely due to the effective prevention measures adopted by the authorities. We could not have succeeded without the responsibility of citizens, without the solidarity of Romanians who most of them understood and followed the rules. I would also like to thank once again the doctors, nurses, nurses, pharmacists and all those who have always been at the forefront of the fight against the virus and have shown their dedication and professionalism.", Said the head of state.
