Russia resumes passenger flights to Spain, Iraq, Kenya and Slovakia starting September 21. It will also increase the number of airports with flights to Turkey and Egypt, after assessing the epidemiological situation in these countries.

Russia imposed travel restrictions at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. Many restrictions are still in place, but the country has gradually expanded the list of countries that can operate international flights to and from Russia.

Starting September 21, there will be four weekly flights from Moscow to Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, and to the Slovak capital, Bratislava. Flights from Moscow to Malaga and Alicante will also be resumed, also in Spain.

The government said the Moscow-Nairobi and Moscow-Baghdad routes would resume with two flights a week. Routes and flights have been added between Russian cities and popular tourist destinations in Egypt and Turkey. In August, Russian airlines operated flights to the Egyptian resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada for the first time in nearly six years after Moscow banned flights to Egypt following a plane crash.
