The Slovak government has announced a 90-day state of emergency and ordered a two-week lockdown nationwide, as the number of positive COVID-19 cases has risen sharply.

During the lockdown period, Slovaks will only be able to leave their homes for essential reasons, such as buying food, medicine, going to work, school and getting vaccinated.

Those who are not yet vaccinated will be required to take a negative test or proof that they have previously been infected with COVID-19 in order to go to work.

"In Slovakia, the state of emergency applies for 90 days, from 25 November 2021. It is also forbidden to hold meetings of more than six people, except for people living in the same household." , announced the Slovak Ministry of Interior.

The Slovak Minister of Health revealed that the country has exceeded the ceiling of 3.000 hospitalizations, noting that almost 83% of those hospitalized have not been vaccinated. According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), 47,6% of the Slovak adult population is partially vaccinated, while 45,7% are fully vaccinated.
