After placing the entire territory of Italy on the list of high-risk areas last week, Spain removed - again - several Italian regions from that list.

Updating the list of high-risk areas, the Spanish Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare has included the following regions from Italy: Basilicata, Calabria, Marche, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Abruzzo, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardi, Molise, Piedmont, Bolzano, Trento, Puglia, Umbria and Veneto .

Travelers from Italian regions who are no longer on the red list have relaxed restrictions and will no longer have to present any vaccination, testing or disease certificates when entering Spanish territory. However, travelers from regions that remain on the high-risk list are still required to present one of three types of certificates in order to enter Spain.

The list entered into force on September 13, 2021 and will be valid until September 19, 2021, inclusive.

At the same time, the requirement for proof of vaccination, recovery from COVID-19 infection or a negative test result also applies in the following regions or countries in Europe:

  • Hungary (Budapest)
  • Portugal (mainland and autonomous region of Madeira)
  • Slovakia (Bratislavský kraj and Východné Slovensko)
  • Countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland (Helsinki-Uusimaa, Etelä-Suomi, Länsi-Suomi and Pohjois-ja Itä-Suomi), France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania (Bucharest-Ilfov, North-East, North-West, South-East, South-Muntenia, South-West Oltenia and West), Slovenia and Sweden.

According to lsafe third countries, the list has narrowed again and only the following countries now remain part of it: Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, China, Hong Kong SAR, Jordan, Macau SAR, New Zealand, Qatar, Moldova, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Korea South, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uruguay.

Spain is among the EU countries that has seen an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases throughout the summer, despite vaccination rates. The country has so far vaccinated 89.2% of its population with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 80.8% are already fully vaccinated.
