Facilitating the safe mobility of Spanish travelers across the EU - that is the goal "EU COVID digital certificate" presented today by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, who announced that, from 7 June, all vaccinated people will be able to enter Spain freely, regardless of the country from which they travel.
"All vaccinated people and their families are welcome in Spain," he said. According to Sánchez, after all 27 EU member states have agreed on the digital certificate, it could be used as early as July 1 to facilitate - those who are already vaccinated, who have gone through the disease and those who have negative results of a PCR test - to travel without restrictions in Europe.
The certificate, which will also include a QR code, can be used in digital or paper format, and will be issued by the Ministry of Health or the Autonomous Communities - as the case may be - will be free and will reflect, among other information, how many doses and when they were administered to the traveler.
Spain will reopen its borders for vaccinated tourists starting June 7.
On the other hand, Sánchez reported that the BOE will publish the ministerial order that will allow travelers from non-EU countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Israel, Thailand, Rwanda, China, the United Kingdom and Japan, starting with since Monday, May 24.
Sánchez indicated that, starting June 7, all citizens of countries where there is no freedom of movement will be able to enter Spain - as long as they have a vaccination certificate authorized by the European Medicines Agency or the World Health Organization and attesting that the owner received both doses.
With regard to EU Member States, he recalled that travelers entering Spanish territory from territories considered safe "listed in the green list" have no restrictions, while - those coming from countries with a high epidemiological risk - they can only enter Spain with a negative PCR test result.
Sanchez praised the progress of the vaccination campaign and said the government hopes to recover between 60% and 70% of foreign tourists from 2019 by the end of this year. In this regard, he stressed that in the summer of 2021 more than eight million tourists are expected to arrive.
