Thailand changed the name of the Bangkok capital to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
The Thai authorities have decided to change the name of the capital in the official documents - now the city will not be called Bangkok, but Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (City of Angels Great Capital).
This decision was taken on Tuesday, February 15, by the Royal Academic Council of Thailand, as part of a project to update the names of territories, administrative areas and capitals. At the same time, the document states that "the use of both names - Bangkok and Krung Thep Maha Nakhon" is permitted.
In the announcement of The Office of the Royal Society (ORST), Krung Thep Maha Nakhon will become the official name of the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand. However, the name Bangkok will be put in parentheses.
The new official name, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, will not enter into force until it has been verified by a commission tasked with examining all bills. The cabinet also asked the group to consider additional comments from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
