Air carriers give up reserved slots at Thai airports. Due to "total uncertainty", most airlines have decided to abandon flights to / from Thailand even despite the official opening of borders on 1 November.

According to The Tiger, Thailand Airports CEO Nitinai Sirisamatthakarn said international carriers had given up about 80 percent of their slots at Thai airports. According to him, this is the period from October 31 to March 26, ie for the entire tourist season.

The cancellation affected all 6 international airports in Thailand: Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Phuket, Hatyai, Chiang Mai and Chiang Ra. At Don Muang Airport in Bangkok, airlines gave up all slots, while Suvarnabhumi gave up 70%.

Nitinai Sirisamatthakarn is trying to remain optimistic in his forecasts and hopes that the aviation sector will gradually recover in the next two years. Meanwhile, Thailand's airports have already suffered losses of 11 billion baht ($ 300 million) in the first 9 months of 2021.
