Dutch Health Minister Hugo de Jonge has announced that from February 2022, the Dutch authorities will only recognize COVID-19 vaccination certificates, which indicate that the holder has received the third dose of vaccine.

Consequently, this means that the Netherlands will shorten the validity of vaccination certificates from 12 to 9 months, and all those who do not meet this requirement will be required to comply with additional entry rules.

The decision of the Dutch authorities to shorten the validity of vaccination certificates, which will officially enter into force on 1 February, follows the recommendation of the European Commission to create an individual approach and a standard for accepting vaccination certificates.

Although there has been no official confirmation from EU authorities yet, Jonge revealed that Member States' representatives have agreed that anyone wishing to travel to or within the EU should receive a booter dose of the vaccine nine months after the second vaccine. .

It is believed that those who do not receive the booster dose will be able to travel to the EU provided they test negative for the COVID-19 test.

The measure taken by the Netherlands is not unique in Europe. The Czech Republic has also announced that the vaccination certificate will be valid for 9 months. Austria has already announced that it will only recognize vaccination certificates showing that the holder has received the last dose of vaccine in the last nine months.
