On 25 June 2018, after completing the rehabilitation of the runway, the first international passenger flight took off from Tîrgu Mureș Airport. It had 189 passengers on board, being operated by the Turkish company Corendon Airlines and having the destination Antalya.
This flight was made possible due to the receipt last week by the Mures County Council, the authority that carried out this investment, of the works executed and the obtaining today, 25 June, of the authorization certificate from the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority, a document confirming that Transylvania Airport can be operated under maximum safety conditions.
The carrying capacity (PCN) of the runway, following the technical expertise made last week, is 70, given that, according to the requirements of the project, it had to be at least 55 and before the start of the works it was 26. This makes it possible for the Tîrgu Mureş Airport to be able to fly with Airbus 320 aircraft, but also with larger aircraft.

The rehabilitation works of the landing / take-off runway were carried out by the Association of companies PORR Construct SRL and Geiger Transilvania SRL, the value of the received works being 56.758.085 lei with VAT included. Of this amount, 50 of millions of lei represents the financing granted by the Government of Romania, the rest of the amount being supported by the budget of Mures County.
We emphasize that the priority objective of the Mures County Council was to make the investment in the best conditions so that the safety of passengers and international flights can be restored.
This week the flight operations will be resumed Wizz Air to two destinations, namely Dortmund and Memmingen. Also, the Antalya race will be operated weekly until the end of September. The management of Târgu Mureş Airport carries on continuous discussions with all the air operators for diversifying the accessible destinations from Târgu-Mureş.
