A draft resolution approved by the cabinet bans "transit of resources, flights and transport" by the 14 airlines. This project must be approved by the National Security Council of Ukraine, headed by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, to become effective.

"Air carriers of the Russian Federation systematically violate the procedure for using the airspace of Ukraine", the government said in a statement. "The violations consist of flights in the prohibited area of ​​the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea."

Russian airlines have been denied access to Ukrainian airspace since 2015.

Hundreds of Russian entities, businessmen and politicians have been sanctioned by Kiev since Ukraine's giant neighbor annexed the Crimean peninsula. Russian airlines, including Aeroflot and Transaero, have been denied access to Ukrainian airspace since 2015.

Other airlines from Russia, included in the list: S7 Airlines, Bobeda, IrAero, KrasAvia, Komiaviatrans, Azimuth Airlines, Tulpar Air, Vologda Aviation, Aerolimousine or Simargl Air.

Ukraine has also accused Russia of sending weapons and troops to help pro-Moscow separatists in the east of the country in a conflict that has killed nearly 14.000 people since April 2014. Russia denies involvement.
