In an attempt to reduce the large number of tourists visiting Venice every day, the Italian authorities have decided to impose certain restrictions as well as taxes. The new measures will take effect on January 1, 2023.

The Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare, Tourism and Economic Development in Venice, Simone Venturini, explained that by imposing restrictions, the aim is to discourage one-day tourism and, at the same time, to encourage slow travel. Before the pandemic, more than 80 tourists visited Venice every day.

In this context, Venice charges a fee of between $ 3.25 and $ 10.85. All those who want to visit Venice will be obliged to book this ticket online, the price of which will vary depending on the time of year. The ticket will be valid for one day only. The authorities have decided to establish such a short validity for these tickets in order to reduce the number of visitors. Tickets will be available for sale online starting June 2022.

Moreover, the local authorities in Venice will close the main access to the historic centers as well as equip the city with 500 rooms to monitor the movement of visitors. Tourists who do not have a valid ticket with them will be rejected at the entrance to the city by the city authorities.
