On Friday, February 19, 2021, at Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest, runway no. Was reopened to air traffic. 2, as a result of the completion and reception of the works at the investment objective “Modernization of the 08L-26R runway and resilience of the related safety zone (including the N, W, V, O taxiways)”.

The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Romania - Dan Barna, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure - Cătălin Drulă, as well as representatives of the manufacturer and other entities in the aeronautical field.

By completing these overhaul and modernization works, the PCN bearing capacity was increased from 80 to 93 / R / D / W / T, and the flight processing capacity for this runway was increased by 20%.

The modernization works aimed, among other things, at changing the concrete slabs on the tread, restoring the embankment and 100% modernization of the beacon system. During the works, over 90.000 tons of bituminous mixtures were poured and 7.800 cubic meters of concrete slabs were rebuilt.

The consulting and execution works, in a cumulative value of approximately 127 million lei, were performed by SC PORR Construct SRL (general contractor) and by SC CONSITRANS SRL (consultant), based on contracts awarded by public tender. The modernization works were completed within 5 months of their start and have a 73-month warranty.

We specify that the runway has a length of 3,5 km, a width of 60 m, of which 45 m is a load-bearing surface and sidewalks of 7,5 m. being carried out only maintenance works.
