Subsequently, the other passengers intervened and immobilized the man, who was held to the ground until the members of the cabin crew managed to tie his hands and feet. The Delta Air Lines crew decided to land in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where - 20 minutes later - the FBI was waiting on the runway to arrest the man who disrupted flight DL386.

The remaining passengers were later picked up by an Airbus A321 aircraft of another airline, a partner in the SkyTeam alliance, and arrived in Nashville about six hours late.

Delta Air Lines said after the incident: "Thank you to the crew and passengers of Delta 386, LAX - Nashville, who helped detain a recalcitrant passenger. The plane landed safely, and police and the FBI arrested the passenger, who is now in custody. "
