A special Lufthansa flight will inaugurate the new airport in Berlin (BER)

The official inauguration of Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) will take place on October 31, 2020, with the parallel landing of Lufthansa and EasyJet aircraft. The two airlines have the largest bases at BER.

The inauguration will take place with a special Lufthansa flight that will depart from Munich (MUC) at 12:50 and will land at Berlin Brandenburg Airport “Willy Brandt” (BER) at 14:00, local time.

The aircraft, called "Neubrandenburg", will be an Airbus A320neo. In addition to the chairman of the Executive Committee of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Carsten Spohr, there will also be 40 guests on board the aircraft.

The flight is special because it will be 100% carbon neutral. All emissions will be offset through the Lufthansa Compensaid platform, which uses sustainable fuel.

Lufthansa has been flying to / from Berlin for over 30 years

The initial flight to the new airport highlights Lufthansa's special and long-term relationship with Berlin. The airline has been flying from / to the German capital for 30 years.

Since September, the Lufthansa Group has been the market leader. The group flies to the capital with six of its airlines. The Group's market share is approximately 30% of all flights, double that of the next position.

No other group of airlines has transported as many Berliners around the world in decades as the Lufthansa Group.

Lufthansa Group customers will have access to a wide range of services at the new airport to make their travel experience even more enjoyable.

You will be greeted by the new 650 sqm Lufthansa lounge with 150 seats available. The panoramic façade of the window offers a phenomenal view of the runway and, in good weather, an exclusive view of the famous television tower in Berlin.

Berlin-Tegel Airport is closing its doors

Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti flights will be operated on the main terminal, just a few steps from the lounge. Eurowings flights will land / take off on / from the northern terminal.

On November 8, 2020, Berlin-Tegel Airport will close its doors and Lufthansa will move to the new BER airport. At 06.45, Lufthansa flight LH173 to Frankfurt is scheduled to take off for the first time from the capital's new airport.

The first arrivals are scheduled for November 7. Flight LH1958 will land from Munich at 22:30 local time.

Together with Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and SWISS will start operations scheduled at BER on November 8. Brussels Airlines follows on November 9th.

Eurowings moves to BER a few days earlier. On November 4, a regular EW flight will take off from the BER for the first time, bound for Cologne. The airline, which will be based on Q2, will initially take off from BER Q1.

Air Dolomiti will have its first flights to BER in the 2021 summer season.
