Etihad Airways has announced the route Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) - Barcelona (Spain). It will open on 21 November 2018.

The Abu Dhabi - Barcelona route will be active starting with November 21, 2018. 5 weekly flights with Airbus A330-200 aircraft will be honored. From March 31, 2019, the route will be honored daily.

The new service is launched in time for the start of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, the largest sporting event in the Middle East. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will take place between November 23 and 25, 2018 on the Yas Marina circuit.

Barcelona will be the second city in Spain to fly Etihad Airways after the capital Madrid. The new route will provide travelers with convenient times for travel from Abu Dhabi to Europe and also connections from Abu Dhabi to major cities in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, China, Japan, Korea and Australia.

The Catalonia region is extremely popular for business and leisure travelers. With 7,5 millions of inhabitants, a sensational mountain landscape and a Mediterranean coast of 214km, the region is rich in natural parks and protected areas.

Barcelona is one of the most famous cities in the world for its unique culture, Gaudi's architecture, history and cosmopolitan lifestyle.

Also, trade between the United Arab Emirates and Catalonia has grown significantly lately in sectors such as the food, chemical, motor vehicles, energy and pharmaceutical industries.

Barcelona was designated the city with the most international congresses in 2017, thus surpassing Paris, Berlin and Vienna. Etihad Airways will increase the frequency of flights based on passenger requests for the Mobile World Congress, which will take place between 25 and 28 February 2019.
