The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has announced in its latest update of the epidemiological index that several European countries and regions are now on the green list. They have had low rates of COVID-19 infection in the last two weeks.

The following countries / regions are now on the green list:

  • Germany
  • Poland
  • Czech Republic
  • Slovakia
  • Austria
  • Hungary
  • Slovenia
  • Romania
  • Bulgaria
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Regions in Norway: Rogaland, Telemark, Vestfold, Oslo, Buskerud, Østfold, Akershus, Oppland, Hedmark, Sør-Trøndelag, Nord-Trøndelag, Nordland
  • Regions of Croatia: Central Croatia, Slavonia,
  • Regions of Italy: Apulia, Molise, Aosta Valley

If you plan to travel to one of these countries, you must comply with the entry conditions imposed by each country. The fight against the pandemic continues.

The placement of these areas on the green list was announced on 5 August and means that travel to and from one of the countries / regions mentioned above is no longer discouraged by ECDC.

Such a decision was made after they identified less than 75 cases of COVID-19 infection per 100.000 inhabitants in the last 14 days and had a test positivity rate of less than 1%.

Countries are also placed on the green list if they have less than 50 cases of coronavirus per 100.000 inhabitants in the last 14 days and have a test positivity rate of less than 4%. Low infection rates are closely linked to the rapid rate of vaccination in these countries.

Based on data provided by ECDC, the average rate of people who have been fully vaccinated per country on the green list is around 50%, with Hungary being the leading country (64,8%), followed by Austria (63,1%), Germany (62,6%), Czech Republic (55,6).

Instead, the ECDC placed other countries and regions on the red list after high levels of coronavirus infection were reported.

However, countries / regions that are currently on the red list also have high vaccination rates, which suggests that cases of infection are mainly related to travel activities.

The ECDC has already warned against travel to Spain, with the exception of the Asturias region, as the country has been included in the red list. To date, 68,9% of the entire Spanish population has been completely vaccinated against the disease. However, the number of new cases of COVID-19 is increasing.

Several regions of France have also been placed on the red list, which means that travel to three French regions is discouraged. France reported that 61,4% of the population was completely immunized.
