The largest airline in Greece, Aegean Airlines (AGNr.AT), declared on Thursday (October 14th) that it raised its stake in Animawings from 25% to 51%, consolidating its presence on the Romanian market.

The Greek company said its total investment for the 51% package amounted to 1,3 million euros ($ 2,06 million).

Star Alliance member Aegean acquired 25% of Animawings, a member of tour operator Memento Christian Tour, in early 2020. In less than a year, Aegean Airlines has taken over the majority stake and wants to expand Animawings' operations.

In the new tourist season, Animawings will operate up to three aircraft in the Aegean Airlines fleet to cover demand on frequent flights and charters.

For 12 years, Christian Tour, one of the largest tour operators in Romania, was a regular customer for Aegean Airlines, organizing charter flights from Romania to Greece.
