Aeroitalia, majority shareholder in Air Connect!
Here are the rumors that appeared in the summer, as it were Aeroitalia wants to buy Air Connect, they came true. On November 3, Aeroitalia announced the acquisition of the majority stake of 93.86% of the Romanian airline Air Connect.
This acquisition will allow Aeroitalia to strengthen its presence in the Italian regional market and strengthen its transport capacity from / to Rome Fiumicino.
Less than two years after its establishment, Air Connect was a much-criticized company in the context of Blue Air's bankruptcy. People who have worked in the past at Blue Air have become administrators at Air Connect. But the wave of dislike and criticism also came because of the cancellation of flights and the delay in starting operations.
Initially, Air Connect posed as a regional company, which planned to launch domestic routes in Romania, between the main airports, but also international routes. From the idea of owning the largest fleet of ATR 72-600 aircraft, Air Connect reduced to leasing two such aircraft, and one was always used for Aeroitalia.
2023 was the year of transformations. The ownership of Air Connect changed, and the initially announced plans no longer corresponded in reality. Finally, Air Connect was bought by Aeroitalia and will certainly be used to develop the regional flight network in Italy. Let's take our thoughts from the domestic routes in Romania, which were announced by Air Connect for 2024? Probably!
