Atlanta Airport in 2020: air passenger traffic down by more than 60%

After decades of ranking first in the world's busiest airports, the famous Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport drops to second place, announcing a 60% decline for 2020. Guangzhou Baiyun Airport climbed to first place with 43.77 million passengers.

The pandemic has certainly spoken, and domestic and international travel restrictions imposed by the United States have led to this dramatic decline. In 2020, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport was transited by 42.9 million passengers, a decrease of over 60% compared to 2019, when Atlanta Airport reported 110.5 million passengers.

The number of flights to / from Hartsfield-Jackson Airport decreased by 39,4% in 2020 compared to 2019. A total of 548.016 flights took off or landed in 2020, down from 904.301 registered in 2019.

And the volume of cargo decreased by about 6.3% in 2020 compared to 2019, most likely due to the lack of passenger flights, which also carried cargo to the hold.
