Sibiu International Airport in 2017: over 500 000 passengers

The 2017 year was an important one for Sibiu International Airport, which outlined the strategic role that Sibiu Airport plays in supporting the sustainable growth of the region.

In the year 2017, Sibiu International Airport registered a total number of 533.306 passengers, realizing a significant increase of + 36,6% of the commercial air traffic of passengers, compared to the year 2016, when they were registered in total 390.417 of passengers.

At the same time, the number of aircraft movements recorded at the Sibiu International Airport increased by + 44,4%, reaching a total number of 7.714 movements, compared to 5.342 movements recorded in the year 2016.

Year 2017 brought Sibiu International Airport passenger with the number 500.000 which used our services during one year, this figure being recorded for the first time since the opening of the air traffic passenger airport.

The continuous increase of passenger air traffic and the results obtained in the 2017 year at Sibiu International Airport represent a natural consequence of the efforts made for the continuous development of the airport. This development was also possible thanks to the passengers who chose to travel from Sibiu airport, as well as from the partner airlines.

In the top of the most popular destinations operated at the Sibiu International Airport in the 2017 year were: Munich, London, Stuttgart, followed by Dortmund, Nuremberg, Madrid, Vienna, Memmingen and Milan.

Starting with June 2018, Wizz Air will open five new routes from Sibiu: Brussels Charleroi - Belgium, Copenhagen - Denmark, Basel - Switzerland, Paris Beauvais - France and Frankfurt Hahn - Germany.

Thus, the network of routes offered by the Siberian airport will expand this year to 14 destinations from 9 countries, thus ensuring the connection of Sibiu with important cities in Europe.

At the same time, the frequencies on four popular routes will increase as follows: London will be operated daily, Memmingen will increase from 2 to 5 weekly frequencies, Dortmund from 3 to 5 weekly and Nürnberg from 3 to 4 weekly frequencies.

The performances obtained in the 2017 year, with the direct support of the Sibiu County Council, are the result of the activities undertaken by the entire team of the Sibiu International Airport, in order to develop and strengthen the network of routes operated at the airport.

The year just ended represents an important milestone in the evolution of the airport, confirming its potential and offering the motivation to continue the steps for the development of the network of routes and services offered to all passengers who choose the airport of Sibiu.
