United Airlines has announced that it will return to JF Kennedy International Airport in February 2021. It is a move that could intensify competition between major airlines once the pandemic is brought under control.
As of February 1, United will operate 4 daily flights from Terminal 7 at JFK International Airport. There will be two flights to San Francisco (SFO) and 2 flights to Los Angeles (LAX).

The four major airlines in the country have focused their operations on the largest airports in recent years. This means that United, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and Southwest Airlines often do not compete at major US airports.
United decided not to operate flights from New York airport in October 2015, considering that the profit it made between 2008 and 2015 was insufficient.
In 2015, United operated 6 daily flights to Los Angeles and 7 to San Francisco from JFK International Airport. By moving these flights to Newark, United said it could better serve customers on the west coast with connections to Europe.
