On 13 July, within Farnborough International Airshow 2016, Air Europa placed an order for 20 aircraft Boeing 737 MAX 8. The new aircraft will play an important role in the Air Europa fleet. The Spanish carrier wants to standardize the aircraft fleet and will be all-Boeing.

The 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which were commissioned in the 2015, will operate long and very long routes. Instead, the new 737 MAX 8 will enter Europe's short and medium routes.

The new single-aisle aircraft will have low fuel consumption, up to 20% lower compared to the first generation Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft. It will offer a lower operating cost / seat with 8% compared to the competing A320neo model.

The 737 MAX family of aircraft will be powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines and benefit from a new wing design - Split Scimitar Winglets. Boeing 737 MAX 8 will offer up to 6510 km range, with up to 1055 km more than 737NG.
