Air France invests 170 millions of euros in aircraft seats on intercontinental flights

At the fair dedicated to professionals in the tourism industry, IFTM-Top Resa, organized during this period in Paris, Air France presented the new offer for products and services of Economy and Premium Economy comfort classes for intercontinental flights. This includes increased comfort on board through ergonomically redesigned seats, an expanded entertainment offer through individual screens and a gourmet catering service.

The total investment in the 10.000 Economy seats is 32 million, in the 1.100 Premium Economy seats is 8 million, and in on-board entertainment (individual screens, variety of options available, etc.) is 130 million. euro.

The new Economy and Premium Economy classes represent the first stage of "Best & Beyond”- the positioning process in the upper segment started by Air France, part of the program Transform NO. The second stage will take place in January 2014, when the company will present the new offer for Business Class flights, and the third in April 2014, when the new offer for La Premiere flights will be launched.

The first flight with the new travel classes will take place next summer, when Air France will gradually equip the 44 777 Boeing with the new cabins and the new onboard entertainment system. Between June 2014 and July 2016, 10.000 Economy seats will be installed on long-haul AF aircraft, respectively on 1.100 Premium Economy seats.

More comfort, more attention to detail, more pleasure to travel

Economy class features new seats, completely revised, with more legroom, more comfortable headrests and a wider table. To ensure optimum comfort, Economy Class seats have been ergonomically redesigned and feature new features such as power sockets and a headphone storage area.

Improvements also appear in the field of entertainment on board through the large type screens iPad, with 3 inches larger than the existing ones, High Definition, which will provide passengers with 1.000 hours of music, movies, TV shows and other programs.

As for the catering service, it is improved with a second hot meal and with new gourmet candy and ice cream snacks, which will make the trip even more enjoyable. This service can be found on board the aircraft starting with the 1 September 2013 date, along with the ecological cutlery created by the Catalan designer Eugeni Quitllet. For children, Air France has provided organic products and an extensive selection of games.
