Air Serbia has canceled plans to launch flights between Belgrade and Sochi amid war in Ukraine and a volatile economic climate in Russia. Ticket sales for these flights have been discontinued.

The flights, which were originally part of the company's thirteen new destinations for this summer, were set to open on June 2. The airline relied on shuttle passengers to take seats on the route, targeting in particular subsequent connections to Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Dusseldorf, London, Ljubljana, Milan, Paris, Prague, Podgorica, Rome, Tivat, Venice and Zagreb. Air Serbia scheduled flights to Sochi in late January 2022, long before the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

This summer, Air Serbia maintains eight weekly flights to Moscow and three weekly flights to St. Petersburg. Seasonal operations to Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don did not resume after the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsiya, extended a flight ban for the sixth time to eleven airports in central and southern Russia.

The ban was implemented due to security concerns in the area after the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

Air Serbia continues to be targeted due to continued operations in Russia. The Belgrade airline's sales office was evacuated following a false bomb threat. Similarly, Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade was evacuated after a fake bomb threat was sent by email.

Air Serbia's operations in Russia have been the target of false bomb threats over the past month, with emails becoming more sinister, now including death threats against company staff. All information has so far been found to be false, with emails being sent from Ukraine and Poland.

Despite the suspension of scheduled flights to Sochi, Air Serbia will continue to launch twelve new routes, scheduled for the summer season 2022. The carrier's general manager, Jiri Marek, said: Amman, Bologna, Bari, Hanover, Lyon, Nuremberg, Palma, Salzburg and Trieste. ” Air Serbia will begin operations from Belgrade to Rijeka, from Niš to Athens, and from Kraljevo to Tivat in June.
