On September 18, Etihad Airways operated a historic Airbus A380 flight to the Maldives to inaugurate the new runway of Velana International Airport. It is 3400 meters long and 60 meters wide, being the only one in the Maldives capable of supporting the A380 plane.

The Airbus A380 Etihad Airways aircraft is configured in 4 classes: 2 seats at The Residence; 9 places at First Apartments; 70 seats at Business Studios and 415 seats at Economy Smart Seats.
But not this A380 was the first plane to land on the new runway of Velana airport. Earlier this month, the aircraft Airbus A320neo (VT-EXL) Air India landed on the wrong runway in Maldives (Video). At that time, the new track was not in operation.
